"Demons, Dames & Demos" is a collection of unreleased songs—unpolished gems, if you prefer—from my former band, The Function (2011-2012). As you'll soon hear, the material here is far from finished (and in some cases was still being tested), lyrics and melodies in songs like "Hollywood" and "Old News" come to mind. You may also hear tempo changes, out of key singing, and out of tune guitars (mostly, always, my fault). Sorry guys.
The experience of gathering and releasing half-finished and unreleased music has been complicated and awkward. There's no going back and fixing, no editing, no retakes. Since the band broke up, these unfinished tracks exist, now ultimately, as finished.
In other words, time gave me perspective and recommended their release.
Despite its inefficiencies, this material offers a unique insight into the musical direction we were headed in. If there ever was to be another EP or album, it would've been in the atmosphere of these tracks, particularly the live cuts.
To the guys in The Function: I miss you, dearly. The music would've only been 1/4 as good if you weren't involved. Thanks for making it special.
To the listener: I hope you enjoy (and please, don't judge too harshly).
